Sony BDP-S360 1080p Blu-ray Player Review

by admin on March 5, 2010

Today, I’m going to review the BDP-S360 1080p Blu-ray Player. With all of the new Blu-Ray Players coming out now, how is one supposed to discern the difference between different qualities of the multitude of brands, let alone the different model numbers. This is the first of many reviews in the world of Sony Blu Ray players today. Let’s jump right in and get started with the review!

Sony BDP-S360 1080p Blu-ray Player Review

First of all, I just picked this up about a week ago and I’ve also got a few other Blu ray players laying around on different TVs in the house. I’ll compare this one directly against the other two, plus the Playstation 3 Blu Ray quality, and see how it turns out. Having tested it, I would say that this Blu-Ray player is a pretty solid improvement over the other two that I’ve got. The build quality of the 360 is amazing, and it seems to be very durable to say the least.

Upon first use, you may be surprised to notice that Sony hasn’t implemented common features on this Blu Ray player remote control, such as the good old “eject” feature. I’m a little upset that this was missing, mostly because I feel that there’s really not a reason NOT to include it on the remote control on a Blu Ray player this new, but it’s not the end of the world. You can also remedy this situation by simply using a universal remote control (that you’ll have to buy separately), but I still feel they should have included this feature.

As far as the video quality goes, the playback rendering and picture is excellent. The DVD upscaling feature when playing regular programming is going to pretty much pale in comparison to the actual Blu Ray discs and even at times can seem a bit blurry, but if you’re buying a Blu Ray player, chances are you’re going to be converting to Blu Ray anyway, so this is pretty much going to be a non issue for most people. Note: some playing around with the settings revealed that the DVD upscaling and DVD picture is drastically improved by changing the video input from auto to 480 when playing traditional DVD discs.

In Summary, if you’re looking for an affordable Blu Ray Player with a decent set of features and that’s pretty much fully customizable, you’re not going to be upset with this model. Like I said earlier, there are a few features which I’d thought to be basic that were absent, but they really don’t affect much. This Sony Blu Ray player looks great paired with Blu Ray Discs, when streaming from the internet, and it looks decent when playing back traditional DVD discs.
